Life Is Fuller With Meaningful Connections

There is no better feeling than giving back!

This summer, my Executive Assistant, Courtney, and I were sitting in Panera one day, sipping on our coffees. Our goal for that week was to find opportunities to support organizations that help the community. I have always believed in the importance of giving back and volunteering my time and skills to help others, so I wanted to find a place where I could do so.

While researching, we came across an organization called P.R.O.M.I.S.E. (HER) based out of Silver Spring, MD. After looking at their website, we learned that their mission is to empower women and girls by creating a safe, loving, and transparent space that teaches Accountability, Boundary-setting, Positive Reflection, Basic life skills, Healthy coping Techniques, and Community Outreach.

As a woman and business owner myself, I jumped at the opportunity to support this organization. Empowering young women to reach their full potential is something that resonates with me.

On Saturday, September 18th, we had the pleasure of attending the "Sister to Sister Networking Brunch" hosted by the organization. This event was an opportunity for women of all walks of life to come together and share more about themselves, and their businesses. While also enjoying some delicious food at the same time!

During the brunch, we met the founder of P.R.O.M.I.S.E. (HER), Maya Garnett. Maya spoke about her personal experiences that led her to create P.R.O.M.I.S.E. (HER) and her passion for empowering young women and teaching them the skills and knowledge necessary to grow and prosper as women in today's society. Listening to Maya speak was a gift. Her kindness and wisdom showed through her powerful words! It was refreshing to meet someone so passionate about helping others.

Maya invited two guest speakers, "Backpack Jeff" (Jeff Young), and Anbria Childs. Jeff shared two beautiful poems about Love with us. He specifically spoke about loving women through all of their successes and failures. He had the whole crowd snapping and cheering by the end! I write poetry myself, so it is always a pleasure to hear others share their poems.

The second guest speaker, Anbria, spoke about the book she wrote called "Let Me Tell You Something." Anbria spoke with such confidence and composure while sharing some of the obstacles she overcame to get where she is today. Listening to her speak made me excited to read her book!

The following week after the event Maya reached out to me to speak at an upcoming Youth Summit hosted by P.R.O.M.I.S.E. (HER). This Saturday I will be talking to a wonderful group of young women about entrepreneurship, something that I am so passionate about. I am so grateful for this opportunity to inspire young women and show them that with hard work and persistence, they too can achieve their goals.

We had so much fun meeting so many wonderful people at this event and making meaningful connections that will last a lifetime. We hope to attend more events from P.R.O.M.I.S.E. (HER) in the future and look forward to continuing to support them.
